In this industry, there are a few truths we do not always say out loud. They might be uncomfortable, they might be unpopular, but they are real. If you are a lash artist, chances are you have felt every one of these at some point.
This is not about being harsh. It is about protecting your craft, your time, and your wellbeing.
1. Classic sets are harder than you think
Classic lashes are often labelled as "basic" or "easy", but any experienced lash artist knows that is far from the truth.
Classic lashing requires extreme precision. Every single lash placement matters. Direction, spacing, and isolation are far more noticeable because there is nowhere to hide. One tiny gap or one lash placed slightly off can throw off the entire set.
Natural does not mean minimal effort. In many cases, it means more focus, more control, and more experience.

2. It is not just a side hustle
Lash artistry is a business. A real one. We are not just applying lashes. We are managing bookings, ordering lash supplies, keeping up with trends, creating content, marketing ourselves, handling admin, and running an entire operation behind the scenes. All of this while still welcoming clients with warmth and professionalism.
On top of that, we listen. We remember details. We hold space for conversations and emotions. Some days, it is a lot. And that deserves to be acknowledged.

3. Lashes are a luxury
If a client says, "I found someone cheaper," that is okay. Let them go.
Lashes are not an essential service. They are a luxury experience. What feels expensive to one person may feel completely reasonable to another.
Behind every set is training, time, premium products, and years of experience. Pricing reflects that.

4. Yes, you can fire clients
No shows, last minute cancellations, and ongoing disrespect are not part of the job description. You do not have to tolerate behaviour that drains your energy or disrespects your business. Clear policies exist for a reason. Enforcing them is not rude, it is professional. Protect your peace. Stick to your boundaries. Leave space in your books for clients who truly value your work.
Being a lash artist is skilled work. It is emotional labour. It is a business. And it is okay to honour that.
If these opinions made you nod along, you’re not alone. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
