9 Tips on How to Retail Lash Products Without Being Too Pushy
5 minute read
As a lash artist, selling retail products can boost your income and improve your clients' experience. In a survey we conducted, we found that over 76% of lash artists retail products to their clients. The products that are most sold are Lash Cleansers, Lash Aftercare Kits and Mascara Wands.
However, many find that the challenge lies in selling these products without coming across as pushy. Here are some tips to help you retail to your clients effectively and naturally.
-
Build Relationships with Your Clients Focus on creating strong, trusting relationships with your clients. When they feel comfortable and valued, they are more likely to trust your recommendations.
-
Use the Products Yourself Using the products you sell helps you explain their benefits better. You'll also feel more confident recommending them.
-
Talk About Benefits, Not Just the Product Based on our survey findings, over 65% of lash artists verbally promote their retail products during appointments. To do this most effectively, instead of just discussing the product, emphasise the transformation and benefits it offers. Explain how a lash cleanser keeps their lashes clean and healthy, or how a lash growth serum can make their natural lashes longer and thicker. People are more interested in the results they can achieve rather than the product itself.
- Offer Complimentary Trials Let your clients try the products. Offer a complimentary lash bath using the lash cleanser and explain its benefits. This hands-on experience can be very persuasive.
5. Place Products Next to the Payment Point Place your retail products where clients can easily see them, especially near the payment point. As clients prepare to pay, they are more likely to notice and consider adding a product to their purchase. It also makes it easy for you to naturally suggest a product.
6. Use Attractive Promotional Displays A professional and attractive display can draw attention, making your products more presentable and appealing to clients.
7. Leverage Social Proof and Create Urgency Mention how your other clients enjoy using the products. After all, people often follow what others are doing. We’ve found that over 51% of lash artists use social media to promote their retail products. Posting on social media about how popular the product is and suggesting it might sell out soon can create a sense of urgency.
8. Follow Up on Results Show that you care about your clients' results by following up with them. Check in at their next appointment to see how they’re finding the products and if they’re using them correctly. This shows you truly care about their experience. When the timing is right, ask if they need another bottle, making it a thoughtful suggestion.
9. Offer Promotional Packages During slower seasons, create promotional packages to attract clients. For instance, offer a deal where booking a full set includes a free lash cleanser. People love free stuff and are often motivated by a good deal.
By using these tips above, you can retail to your clients in a way that feels natural and supportive rather than pushy. And hey, you enjoy clients coming back with healthy, clean lashes, right? It’s a complete win-win situation. Happy retailing!
